THE AEGIS MODEL

Aegis Model for drug addiction treatment

The Aegis Model is an innovative multi-disciplinary, outcomes-based treatment program focused on the synergistic capabilities of proven medication-assisted treatment, intensive evidence-based clinical therapy, social work, comprehensive case management and education in an outpatient setting. The model requires patients to take a greater role in their own recovery, and provides patients with transparency into the clinical decision making and the treatment process. This short-term intensive treatment approach has already shown an unprecedented rate of clinical success with the subject population.

The Aegis Model's scope of services incorporates medical, clinical and motivational work. While the medical work seeks to stabilize the patient and address medical problems, motivational work focuses on nurturing the commitment of each patient to their own recovery, and finally the clinical work focuses on the treatment of the addiction and the underlining co-occurring conditions.

THE AEGIS MODEL OF ADVANCED TREATMENT SERVICES INCLUDES:

Caseload Management and Coordination of Care - Aegis patients are continually evaluated during their recovery process. Accordingly, patient treatment plans are adjusted on an ongoing basis to properly manage the individual’s distinctive conditions and support systems. Patients are also advised to meet with their caseload manager to mitigate any crisis that may arise in the patient’s life.

Medication and Medical Care - Aegis patients are medically examined upon admission, and regulary therafter, to determine their medication and treatment needs. Aegis centers are fully staffed with highly trained medical teams, consisting of physcians, dispensary nurses and medical assistants. If further medical assistance is needed, Aegis will refer patients to local providers to assist in their treatment.

Individual Counseling - Special attention is given to patients depending on the severity of their condition. Counseling on various topics and issues (e.g. PTSD, ADHD, anger, stress, etc.) are provided by a specialist following the referral from the caseload manager. The individual counseling sessions provide a platform for patients to identify and receive counseling on their short-term and long-term recovery goals.

Group Counseling - To supplement the individual counseling sessions, Aegis provides patients with group counseling and group therapy that focus on the treatment of stress, anxiety, grief, anger, self-esteem and coping skills, amongst others. This allows patients to interact and counsel with other patients with similar treatment obstacles.

Keys To Recovery (K2R) Support Groups - Aegis offers patients a variety of weekly K2R support groups, catered to the person’s individual condition and short-term goals. The K2R support groups complement the patient’s counseling and therapy, and cover general topics such as anxiety, stress, relapse, as well as specific groups including Hep-C, single-parents, and young adults, to name a few.

Educational Programs - Aegis and its specialists provide education to designated patients on the co-occurring conditions they are being treated on. Education sessions are utilized to overcome patient resistance to changes in their treatment due to fear, insecurity, denial, guilt and shame.

Social Work - Specialized case management is provided by social workers to patients with specific needs. Social workers assist patients with community resources and the correctional/judicial system, as well as with the patients’ relationships with family and friends.

Crisis Intervention, Case Conferences, Peer Review - Regular conferences amongst the Aegis treatment team are conducted to address high-risk conditions, crisis intervention and the relapse prevention of patients. This conference promotes the multi-disciplinary approach Aegis takes with the treatment of each and every one of its patients.
