OUTSTANDING RESULTS ACHIEVED IN THE ENROLLMENT OF SELF-PAY PATIENT INTO COVERED CALIFORNIA AND MEDI-CAL

12/15/2013 Canoga Park, California - Chris Ong, Operations Manager, is pleased to report to the Department Directors of the excellent results that the clinics have achieved in the enrollment of self-pay patients into Covered California and Medi-Cal. AEGIS ACHIEVES SIGNIFICANT REDUCTIONS IN PATIENT ATTRITION RATES

07/09/2012 Canoga Park, CA – Utilizing the Network for the Improvement of Addiction Treatment (NIATx) Study, Aegis Medical Systems, Inc. put into effect innovative changes to its treatment model in the first five days of patient treatment. The result has been an unprecedented reduction in attrition, reducing rates from 16% to 4% within the first 3 months of the “Five in Five” pilot study.

Arron Hightower, Director of Clinical Services, stated, “Patient dropout is a universal problem in the addiction recovery process. However, it is a problem that in most cases can be avoided altogether. By building solid therapeutic alliances early on in treatment, our patients are given a much better chance at successful recovery.”

Aegis began its “Five in Five” program – requiring new patients to participate in a five-day admission process – in its Simi Valley clinic in hopes of lowering attrition rates by engaging patients earlier in treatment. Due to its unparalleled success, Aegis is now currently expanding the pilot program to include 10 additional facilities throughout the State of California.

FAMILY MEMBERS JOIN KEYS TO RECOVERY SUPPORT GROUPS IN CHICO

06/11/2010 Canoga Park, CA – Aegis Medical Systems Chico clinic held its first Family Support Group on May 26, 2010. The meeting was a great success and was attended by 16 parents, spouses and significant others of current patients. This was the first time that the Aegis clinic in Chico has opened its support groups up to family members, spouses and significant others that are positively supporting Aegis patients.

Judson Lea, Chico Clinic Manager, stated that, “The involvement of family members in general, and parents in particular, in the recovery of patients is essential to sustain the successful recovery from addictions to opiates. Unlike our staff members, who are focused on the provision of medical and clinical care, family members can provide patients with support and motivation.”

Arron Hightower, Director of Clinical Services, added that, “Rates of clinical success significantly increase when clinical work is complemented by motivational work. While the first effort focuses on the treatment of the patient, the second nurtures patients’ commitment to their recovery. Without such an ‘engine,’ patients are less likely to be able to stay focused on their long and difficult process of recovery.”

Mr. Barkai added that, “From September 2008 through February 2009, Aegis was able to track a 34% reduction in level of illicit opiate abuse in some of Aegis’ clinics, with average reduction of 19% throughout Aegis’ network of clinics (from 20.5% to 16.5%). Certain Aegis clinics also saw a 54% reduction in the use of illicit drugs, with an average of 8% for all clinics (from 26.8% to 24.7%). Not only are these precedent setting results for Aegis, and represent an enormous improvement in the lives of Aegis patients, but we believe that this level of success is likely among the best in the nation.”

Arron Hightower, Director of Clinical Services, added that, “These results can be attributed to the full implementation of the Aegis Model (for more detail please click here ). In particular, these impressive changes have resulted from Aegis’ expansion of its scope of treatment as well as the increase in the level of services. AEGIS PAAG PETITIONS IN PROTEST AGAINST PROPOSED BUDGET CUTS IN DRUG MEDI-CAL RATES

04/11/2008 Canoga Park, California, April 11, 2008, Steve Day, Chairman, submitted the Patient Advisory and Advocacy Group’s (“PAAG”) formal protest against the Governor’s proposal for a reduction of 2008-09 Drug Medi-Cal rates.

Mr. Day, expressed the PAAG stance that “The present rates and level of services are essential for the continued successful recovery of patients in Narcotic Treatment Programs. We believe that any reduction in the quality and level of services that patients are presently receiving may result in unnecessary relapses, incarcerations, as well as trauma to the patients, their families, and the communities in which they reside.”

Furthermore, the PAAG shared in its petition the fact that, “The proposed budget cuts will not resolve the budget deficit, but would ultimately result in additional direct and indirect costs to the State. Such contentions are supported by repeated studies, which have concluded that for every dollar spent on drug treatment, the State saves seven ($7) dollars in other direct and indirect costs, including legal, medical, welfare, etc.”

Steve Maulhardt, Vice President, added that, “We appreciate the support of our patients, and specifically the efforts of the PAAG. The partnership between Aegis and its patients has been very effective, and their testimonials to the State Senate and Assembly Budget Committees has provided the legislators with significant insight into the successful recovery of our patients. Additional, their testimony provided a better perspective on the damage that budget cuts could cause to this great success story.

The Patient Advisory & Advocacy Group (“PAAG”) is committed to represent and pursue the best interests of the opiate dependent patient and all other substance dependent patients or clients in the population served by Aegis Medical Systems, Inc. (“AMS”), Aegis Institute, Inc., (“AI”) and Nationwide Medical Group, Inc. (“NMG”).

From this point on, the majority of Aegis clinics will have RCD’s working alongside with our physicians, who serve as medical directors at our clinics.”

Jeff Bisaga, Regional Clinical Director for Aegis’ Chico clinic, stated, “We are very proud that such outstanding clinicians have joined Aegis. As a group, they bring a broad array of experience in the treatment of various mental, emotional and behavioral disorders.” He further added, “The newly appointed RCD's primary responsibilities include participation in clinical decision making, oversight of Aegis’ partnerships with academic institutions, as well as the recruiting of specialists and provision of specialized services to Aegis patients.”

Becky Heinicke, Director of Q.A. & Q.C., stressed the important role that RCD’s play in the treatment of our patients, and stated that, “Recent studies suggest that almost 90% of our patient population exhibit symptoms of co-occurring conditions. Unless we adequately educate our patients, and offer them treatment for these conditions, they are not likely to be successful with their recovery.” In summary, she stated, “None of these services would be possible without the addition of RCD’s to Aegis’ clinical staff.”
